Lower Vein Mapping and Marking

LOWER EXTREMITY VEIN MAPPING AND MARKING

Ultrasound can be used to locate the veins in the lower extremity.  Once these veins are located, they will be followed (mapped) and marked with a washable marker in order to help the doctor/surgeon find a suitable vein for a surgical procedure (i.e. bypass grafts, dialysis grafts, CABG).

To prepare you will be asked to remove clothing that covers your legs and will be given a gown to wear.  Then we will examine the veins in each leg and use a water-soluble marker (non-toxic and washable) to mark the exact location of the veins. The veins size will also be measured.
